Identity. What is identity? Identity is who you are. At times your identity can be altered or changed little by little. What if you didn’t know who you truly were? What if one split second could decide the rest of your life? Divergent is set 100 years into the future after a severe war in a city we call Chicago. The city’s inhabitants are split into factions, groups, depending on where they belong based on their defining trait. There are five factions, Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Erudite, and Dauntless. The Amity are farmers, always cheerful, and dress in vibrant colors. The Abnegation are helpers, they are selfless, modest, don’t care about their own looks, and help those that are factionless. The Candor value truth and run the judicial system. The Erudite are the serious-minded scholars who wear conservative, dark blue. Then there is the Dauntless, the brave soldiers whose duty is to protect the city from danger.
The main character, Beatrice Prior (Tris), played by Shailene Woodley, was born and raised in Abnegation but feels like she wants to be different. Divergent is the story about who she really is and finding her true identity. I personally found this movie very interesting. In some cases, this movie, along with its books, seem like a sibling of the well-known Hunger Games trilogy. I for one did not see it as this. Shailene became her character in a way most of us don’t see possible. The movie was more than just “well-done”, it was practically on the dot. The script was almost a word-for-word copy of the book (Written by Veronica Roth), not leaving out many scenes, it kept old-fans happy and new-fans up-to-date with the whole story. Though this movie may be rather long, it is definitely something worth the time!

I really like the topic of your blog. However, I believe that each new idea should be separated. For example, you go straight from a question to talking about what Divergent is about. Those ideas should be separated through paragraphs or in some other way. I really enjoyed reading your movie review and can not wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteOh I saw this movie, and I read the book. I liked how they changed the ending of the book a little in the movie, it makes the ending sweeter. I thought the director would do a terrible job but the movie was actually good.
ReplyDeleteI think your blog topic is a good choice. I liked how you explained the five factions and then went on to give info about the movie. I haven't read the book but I can't wait to see the movie whenever I can!
