The Other Woman

After Carly Whitten (Cameron Diaz) gives a surprise visit to her boyfriend, she discovers that he not only is cheating on her, but he is married! Mark King’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) wife, Kate (Leslie Mann) is introduced as a crazy, funny character who is one insane girl. As the movie progresses, the story gets more complicated with twists and turns. Then the two girls become very unlikely friends. Soon, they meet his third mistress, a hot, young, blonde Amber (Kate Upton). As they remake their torn-up lives, all three girls swear revenge and plan to take him down once and for all.

All-in-all, the movie wasn’t as good as everybody thought it would be. The acting was good and all, but the plot and story-line dragged on. I for one, could not wait until it was over. It was good at first, but the movie was an extended version of a weird friendship. The movie definitely should have  had more scenes and parts of the revenge because that was the main problem. I also think that they should have added the third affair before they did. It understand what the creators were trying to portray, they just did it the wrong way.

Transcendence

Dr. Will Caster, Johnny Depp, is a technology genius with ideas that could change the world. He creates a revolutionary plan called “Transcendence”. This plan includes creating technology that can not only save people, but can also recreate objects, bring the dead back to life, and heal the wounded. This attracts the negative attention of R.I.F.T., a group of anti-technological extremists. They decide that they need to stop him before it is too late. After Will is shot with a laced bullet, Evelyn, his wife, makes a choice. As a fellow researcher she knows that there is a way to keep his mind alive even if his body is dead. The only way to save Will before time runs out is to upload him onto the World Wide Web.
This movie was something special, from the concepts to the coding, every part is as realistic as could be. Not only will this satisfy your Sci-Fi needs, but it will also blow your mind! The plot and special effects were beyond what I was expecting. Some parts are a little confusing and the whole R.I.F.T. thing was kind of weird, but other than that, it was a pretty cool film. This movie really changed the way I thought and felt about technology to the point. Probably, the craziest part about this entire movie was the fact that this is actually possible. If you are into technology, love stories, or Johnny Depp… this is definitely the movie for you!

Pompeii

A city buried in ash. Taking place in the year 79 A.D., Pompeii is the tale of Milo. Once was a slave, now an invincible gladiator, who finds himself in a race against the clock to rescue his love Cassia, the gorgeous daughter of the ruler of Pompeii. After she leaves Rome for “complicated” reasons, she returns to find that trouble has followed her home. Corvus, a power hungry, corrupt Roman Senator, forces her into marriage while blackmailing her parents. As the story proceeds, nearby Mount Vesuvius begins to erupt onto Pompeii, transforming the once great city, into a hell. Blazing lava and ash destroys both the city and everyone inside. Milo is determined to find Cassia and escape as the once beautiful city collapses all around him.

Though the storyline was well developed, the movie was a run-on. At first the movie was pretty slow and more of a love story, then all of a sudden, KABLAMO! everyone is dying! I for one think that the transition was too quick and that some scenes were dramatic to the max! If they had made it more realistic to what had actually happened, it would have been better. The beginning and the ending of the movie were very well done. Though the story would entertain most people, the movie itself is too slow and doesn’t captivate some of the audience’s attention. I understand that what the director was trying to portray, but his approach ruined it. All in all, this movie had its ups and downs. But, for you history and chick flick lovers, this might be something worth watching.

Divergent

Identity. What is identity? Identity is who you are. At times your identity can be altered or changed little by little. What if you didn’t know who you truly were? What if one split second could decide the rest of your life? Divergent is set 100 years into the future after a severe war in a city we call Chicago. The city’s inhabitants are split into factions, groups, depending on where they belong based on their defining trait. There are five factions, Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Erudite, and Dauntless. The Amity are farmers, always cheerful, and dress in vibrant colors. The Abnegation are helpers, they are selfless, modest, don’t care about their own looks, and help those that are factionless. The Candor value truth and run the judicial system. The Erudite are the serious-minded scholars who wear conservative, dark blue. Then there is the Dauntless, the brave soldiers whose duty is to protect the city from danger.

The main character, Beatrice Prior (Tris), played by Shailene Woodley, was born and raised in Abnegation but feels like she wants to be different. Divergent is the story about who she really is and finding her true identity. I personally found this movie very interesting. In some cases, this movie, along with its books, seem like a sibling of the well-known Hunger Games trilogy. I for one did not see it as this. Shailene became her character in a way most of us don’t see possible. The movie was more than just “well-done”, it was practically on the dot. The script was almost a word-for-word copy of the book (Written by Veronica Roth), not leaving out many scenes, it kept old-fans happy and new-fans up-to-date with the whole story. Though this movie may be rather long, it is definitely something worth the time!
